Psychotherapy

I offer individual psychotherapy tailored to each person’s needs and goals. Treatment may be exploratory and insight-oriented, more structured and skills-based, or a combination of both, depending on what will be most helpful.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy focuses on communication patterns, recurring relational dynamics, and areas of conflict or disconnection. The work aims to foster clearer understanding and more constructive ways of relating.

Psychopharmacology

When medication is considered, treatment is careful and collaborative, with close attention to benefits and side effects. From the outset, we discuss what an appropriate off-ramp might look like — how and when medication could eventually be reduced or discontinued — so that its purpose and duration are clear.

Combined Treatment

For many people, the most effective approach is a combination of psychotherapy and medication. In these cases, care is integrated within an ongoing therapeutic relationship so that treatment remains coordinated.

Scheduling a First Meeting

Before scheduling a first appointment, we will have a brief phone conversation. I will ask about what is bringing you in, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions about me. This helps us determine whether we are a good fit and schedule an initial meeting.

The Initial Consultation

The first two meetings comprise the consultation. They are 45–60 minutes each, typically about a week apart. During the consultation, we will discuss your current situation as well as your history, including social, developmental, and medical history. We will also discuss your goals for treatment. Toward the end of the consultation, we will discuss a treatment plan.

Psychotherapy Appointments

Psychotherapy sessions are typically 45 minutes and scheduled regularly (e.g., weekly or as clinically indicated).

Medication Management Appointments

Medication management sessions are 30 to 45 minutes and are scheduled at regular intervals ranging from monthly to every six months, depending on clinical needs.

Cancellation Policy

Sessions canceled with less than two business days’ notice are subject to charge. There is no charge if you are able to reschedule within the same week or if another patient is able to use your time.

Payment

For weekly patients, I will provide a bill at the end of every month. For others, I will provide a bill at the time of your appointment. Payment may be made by personal check, mailed to my office address, or by Zelle using my name and phone number.

Insurance

I am an out-of-network clinician. I supply invoices with the appropriate codes for reimbursement, which patients submit directly to their insurance companies.

Understanding Out-of-Network Reimbursement

If you plan to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, it can be helpful to clarify your out-of-network benefits in advance. When you contact your insurer, you may wish to ask:

• What is my annual out-of-network deductible, and how much of it has already been met?
• After the deductible is met, what percentage of the fee is reimbursed? (Many plans reimburse approximately 70%, though this varies.)

It may be helpful to specify that services are for outpatient psychiatry and that your psychiatrist typically submits claims using CPT codes 90836 and 99213.

Communication – Phone/Text

Phone and texting may be used for scheduling, prescription requests, or routine questions. For more sensitive clinical matters, phone is preferred. Messages are usually returned by the end of the next business day.

Prescription Refills

All prescriptions are sent electronically to the patient’s pharmacy. Requests for prescription refills may be made by phone or text. Every effort will be made to fulfill refill requests within a reasonable timeframe.

Emergencies

Patients experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, or requiring immediate medical attention, should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
